Both Clubs
are extremely grateful to Snr. Salvador Alba Fernandez and his team
for their ongoing interest in Bowling along the Coast. The 300€
Prize Fund for the winning Team created an added incentive on this
occasion, as if any were needed.
With so many Members returning from their Summer break in the UK,
both Clubs could have fielded stronger Teams. However, the mutual
agreement by the Club Captains and Competition Secretaries meant
that only those Members available to play for their Club between May
and July could be considered for selection. This agreement was duly
honoured by both parties.
Benavista entered the second leg on 1 October as strong favourites
having won the opening encounter at Superbowl by 12 shots ( 97-85 )
but, with their opponents able to field a more balanced side for the
return, the outcome was always going to be in doubt.
Two of Superbowl’s Rinks got off to “flying starts” with David
Pittel’s Team establishing a 10-2 lead after 6 ends and the one
skipped by Marjorie Johns a 10-2 lead after 10 ends. Ultimately both
were “pegged back” but their performances were an inspiration to the
other Team Members and helped provide the platform for a hard earned
victory.
Neil Marshall’s Four, always difficult to beat, were involved in a
tight struggle and overcame stubborn opposition on the last three
ends. The Teams skipped by Ken McBride and Steve McManus were also
involved in titanic struggles but both lost five of the last seven
ends to give their opponents crucial victories.
It was John Owen’s Team who provided the convincing victory which
made the aggregate scoreline so emphatic and they did it in style
against strong opposition.
